He said he had no plans to come back to the city of Boston, and was excited to return to a team he said was the best in the game.
He had two seasons with Boston, including the World Series title in 2013.
He has played for the Red Stars and the New York Yankees, but he never made the All-Star team.
Beniatis had a good year in 2017, throwing a complete-game shutout of the Chicago Cubs and winning the ERA title for the first time in three seasons.
He had a career-high seven strikeouts against the New Orleans Saints.
The Red Sox are a contender again this season, having won the American League East and advanced to the postseason for the second time in four seasons.
Benintendi said he would love to be back with the Red Wings.
