The arrival of a shipment of Chinese pandas in Hong Kong, which has been hit by a record-breaking coronavirus outbreak, has caused delays for delivery of pandas that had been scheduled to arrive today.
The shipment was scheduled to take place today but was delayed at a Hong Kong airport because of a shortage of supplies, Chinese state media reported.
The Chinese government had said it planned to resume shipments of pandahs in the coming days.
China’s Foreign Ministry said it was concerned by the “unexpected situation” in Hong and urged people to use the emergency cooling system to keep their homes cool.
Hong Kong’s local government has said it has received a total of more than 1,000 pandas, but some have been left stranded in the city after they were unable to travel from China’s main port.
More than 100,000 people have been vaccinated against the pandas coronaviruses.
